Charlotte Goodman is just like any other trans teenager. She enjoys hanging out with friends, running on the school's track team, and her father is a trickster god (long story). After a birthday present from her father turns out to be a monkey's paw, Charlotte finds herself in a strange new world where she's cis and popular at the expense of her old friends. Now Charlotte must find a way to adjust to this new life and fix her friendship without losing herself.
