My grandfather collected owl figurines, and I started drawing short comic books featuring owls as gifts for him. Before long, I stopped drawing their legs (easier to just crop them outside the panels) and arms (since they just hung at their sides anyway). As my ideas picked up speed, I stopped drawing the backgrounds too, focusing more on the characters and story than the setting.
