Nearly a century after climate apocalypse upends civilization, the Invisible Hand lurks the shadows of the alt reall, threatening the new rulers’ death grip on the underclass. Deon, a mysterious agent of the Hand, receives critical information from Jael, the disgruntled daughter of Lord Stewart. Through her actions, she inadvertently puts her father’s life at risk. A new Lottery launches where Winners are chosen from the vermin to inherit from Benefactors selected for execution, including her father. Realizing her mistake, Jael struggles to undo her actions and rescue him. But what larger game is Deon playing? Will the Hand reinhabit the old abandoned world or simply destroy the new world? And what happens when the vermin from the bottom suddenly rise to the top?
