Here's a couple morbid facts: the last public execution in France by guillotine happened 1939. France wasn't the only country to use the Guillotine for executions, nor even the first. The French Revolution lasted roughly from 1789 to 1799, so although is started around "30 years ago" in this story, Jade actually would've been born only a few years after it had ended.
