Benjamin Herrmann is a cynical loner, cold and close-minded. However, that won't help him as his mother secretly signs him up for a student exchange program. Now he must spend a year in Japan, at the Tatsuya High School finishing a checklist that needs him to be the exact opposite of himself. On arrival he meets his student guide: Mizuho Sakiyurai. She makes it their mission to finish the list by the end of the year and tries to break down the walls around her new friend from the west.
