In case it's a little confusing, the barrier is a spell that uses the bones of a sacrificial creature--in this case a ram--to circle a desired area to keep unwanted visitors out. Only the person who cast the spell or those who have applied the sacrificed ram's blood over their heart can pass through. The weird magic upside down floating candles are just for the aesthetic.
