D-January is a place dominated by a local mobster group called the Serpent. Every ten years, this place is transformed into a sea of blood, because during the twelfth day of July the population suffers a ten percent decrease through the "Day of the Purge" - a period when it is allowed to kill the members of the mafia, but also of being easily murdered by them. Everything indicated that this cycle would never be broken, at least this is what was believed.
